Scholarships
Association of Quartermasters
Congratulations on your decision to apply
for the Association of Quartermasters (AQM) scholarship program. We intend to
award scholarships to the best qualified applicants, a decision which is based
upon multiple criteria. Therefore it is in your best interest to read the
entire application and develop a cohesive packet which clearly outlines your
strengths.
The criteria used during the evaluation are
based upon your academic records, references, and the essay you write. It is
important that you understand that the recommendations and essay are more
heavily weighted than your transcripts.
When completing the Personal History
Worksheet, list those activities you feel are most important. This worksheet
should include academic, professional, athletic, social clubs, and civic
organizations you are a member of or have participated in and any associated
honors or awards you received from those organizations. You may use a
continuation sheet if required. Ensure you spell out any acronyms and be
careful of abbreviations.
-
Leadership positions include any
appointed or elected leadership roles you have or currently hold.
-
Academic honors include awards from
school, college, or military courses.
-
Community activities and organizations
includes non-academic organizations you feel demonstrate your character.
This could include, but not limited to; scouting, extracurricular activities
(sports, band, choir, and clubs), religious, and volunteer
work/organizations (Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, hospital work, etc.).
-
Military or professional awards include
Employee of the Month, Volunteer of the Quarter/Year, Military
Awards/Decorations, etc.
The recommendation is very important in this
process. A recommendation from your school counselor or academic advisor is
needed if you are attending classes. A recommendation from community leader,
religious leader, or military rater will do if you are currently a
non-student. Ask them to comment on your leadership skills and potential,
support to the local community or volunteer groups, participation in
extracurricular activities, etc. More than one recommendation is acceptable.
The essay is a critical part of your
application. The essay should be 1,000 – 1,500 words, typed and error free. It
will be evaluated on length, content, grammar, spelling, punctuation, format,
etc. The essay topic is leadership. Identify what you believe are essential
elements, characteristics, and values that a leader should have. You can
provide an example(s) of some leaders you feel have these elements.
Your application packet must
be mailed no later than March 31, 2006 to:
